Author: Steve Allen

Although Steve Allen is best known for his creative work in music and comedy, he has also written thirty-two books, including “Dumbth”: And 81 Ways to Make Americans Smarter (Prometheus). He was the creator of the original “Tonight” show, as well as “Meeting of Minds,” which brought together various historical figures for panel discussions. He was presented the Distinguished Humanist Award at the Tenth Humanist World Congress in 1988. This interview was conducted in Los Angeles in July 1989 by Mary Beth Lehrman, FREE INQUIRY’S managing editor.
