Lance Jencks is a financial professional and a community activist. In 1996, he conceived the Pledge Restoration Project, an advertising campaign to remove “under God” from the Pledge. In 1997, he moved the campaign to the Internet, where it eventually received nationwide attention, in large measure due to the “under God” lawsuit filed by Sacramento attorney Michael Newdow, and was taken up by the Supreme Court in March. His current project is the Web site www.churchstate.com.
